This month we have chosen to feature Casbah Day Spa and Casbah Evolution Beauty Bar. Their use of environmentally friendly products and a desire to promote the wellness of their customers are what make them unique to the beauty industry.
We had the chance to speak with Casbah Day Spa and Casbah Evolution Beauty Bar Founder, Nicole King, for a quick interview about her company, the beauty industry, and much more!
Sara: Why did you decide to use environmentally friendly products at Casbah Day Spa?
Nicole: As a spa, we’re in the business of wellness and using environmentally friendly products that align with what we believe in. We believe in practicing what you preach and that includes using clean products to promote the overall wellness of our customers.
Sara: After being a part of the beauty industry since 2002, what do you believe is the most important lesson you’ve learned, so far? Why?
Nicole: The biggest lesson we’ve learned at Casbah is that It’s all about servicing the client and customer service. You can do as much marketing as you want, but when it comes down to it, focusing on the client and giving them a great experience will create a much better impact. It’s important because one great, genuine experience gives a much higher chance that a client will return, than a marketing campaign.
Sara: Is there a story behind the name ‘Casbah’?
Nicole: Well, Casbah is Moraccan for a palace located outside of a village and since we’re located just outside of Vancouver, B.C, in White Rock, we’d like to think of our spa as our little palace. It’s our place of peace outside the hustle and bustle of the city.
Sara: How did Casbah Evolution Beauty Bar come to be an extension of Casbah Day Spa?
Nicole: We found that in 2008 we were doing a lot of makeup and we were growing out of the space that we were currently in. We needed more room to meet the demand of appointments that we were getting, so Casbah Evolution Beauty Bar was a way to meet a need that we saw wasn’t being met at the spa.
Sara: When did you first hear about Amaterasu and why did you decide to include it at Casbah Evolution Beauty Bar?
Nicole: I’m not a makeup artist by trade, so I listen to my staff because they’re the ones that love the makeup products and they’re also the ones who told me all about Amaterasu. I have tried a few products since then and I think they’re great. The quality of the products speaks for themselves. They were made for the perfect makeup application.
Sara: What is your best selling Amaterasu products?
Nicole: I’m probably the wrong person to ask, but our Spa Manager Ashley would probably know better than me. From what I remember, numbers wise, it’s either one of the Mascaras because they all add much more volume than any other mascara we have or it's the Eye Pencil. People love the Eye Pencil and I love it too! I love the application and even I can apply it smoothly, even though I’m not a makeup artist.
Sara: What does empowering beauty mean to you?
Nicole: Empowering beauty means allowing yourself to see that beauty comes from the inside-out. It’s also about empowering overall wellness, so that you feel good on the inside to reflect how you look on the outside.
We like to think that we empower beauty with the treatments we offer. When you start off with good skincare and healthy skin, you’ll have a good canvas for the products you use.
