The art of being creative for optimal hormonal health
Inspiration can sometimes feel like a fleeting muse, difficult to grasp and even harder to maintain. However, creativity isn't just for artists and writers; it's a valuable skill in all aspects of life, from problem-solving at work to finding new hobbies. The good news is that creativity can be nurtured and developed.
Being creative for me definitely includes getting my makeup on and putting together a nice outfit for the day. According to John Gray, the author of Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus a woman hormones can be balanced when she feels calm and beautiful. The simple act of putting on face creams and makeup would literally transformed our moods.
Many of my friends and customers shared that they often feel tired and groggy upon waking. Once, they washed their face and put on their favourite face cream they suddenly feel more awake. Then, as soon as they draw in their eyebrows and apply their eye liner plus a bit of mascara, they feel so much better and are ready to face the world. I think John Gray is bang on in his theory that the simple act of putting on makeup really does shift our hormones.
Embracing New Experiences
Other way to embrace creativity is to step outside your comfort zone and try new things. This doesn't necessarily mean grand adventures; it can be as simple as:
-
Exploring a new neighborhood: Pay attention to the architecture, the sounds, and the people. Not to mention, a nice walk is always healthy for our hearts.
-
Trying a new cuisine: Engage your senses with unfamiliar flavors and aromas.
-
Learning a new skill: Whether it's knitting, painting, or a new language, the process of learning stimulates different parts of your brain.
Cultivating a Curious Mindset
Curiosity is the fuel for creativity. Ask "why" and "what if" questions constantly.
-
Read widely: Explore topics outside your usual interests. Non-fiction, fiction, articles, and even comics can offer new perspectives.
-
Observe your surroundings: Take time to notice the details you usually overlook. How does light fall on objects? What patterns do you see in everyday life?
-
Engage in deep conversations: Discuss ideas with people from different backgrounds and with varying viewpoints.
The Power of Play
Remember how effortlessly creative you were as a child? Reconnecting with that playful spirit can unlock new ideas.
-
Doodle or sketch: Don't worry about the outcome; just enjoy the process.
-
Engage in imaginative games: Whether it's building with LEGOs or playing board games, allow your mind to wander and connect disparate ideas.
-
Set aside time for unstructured thinking: Allow your mind to roam free without a specific goal. This "mind-wandering" can often lead to unexpected breakthroughs.
The Importance of Rest and Reflection
While it might seem counterintuitive, taking breaks and allowing for reflection is crucial for creativity.
-
Mindfulness and Meditation: Practicing mindfulness can help clear your mind and make space for new thoughts.
-
Journaling: Writing down your thoughts, observations, and ideas can help you process information and connect dots you might otherwise miss.
-
Spending time in nature: Nature has a calming and inspiring effect, allowing your mind to relax and recharge.
By incorporating these practices into your daily routine, you can cultivate a fertile ground for creativity to flourish.
Personally, I really enjoy reading, painting as well as blending different type of herbal teas and enjoy them with my family. One of the ritual I truly enjoy is to hold a matcha ceremonial with my son at home. He took a keen interest in this since he was only 1 year old. He knows the steps to making a nice cup of matcha with a bamboo whish. Our must-have is the Nakai Organic Premium Matcha.
